Robert Watson
Technical Documentation Consultant
Bob Watson has been writing technical documentation for over two decades. He's applied principles from his study and research to improve API quality, documentation readability and customer satisfaction at Google, Amazon, Microsoft and other companies. Before embarking on his technical communication career, Watson worked as a software engineer for 15 years on communications and performance-analysis software. He's taught user-centered design and technical communication to graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Washington and Mercer University. He’s also published papers on API usability, API documentation design and documentation analytics. While at Mercer University, Watson was awarded a Fulbright Scholar’s grant to apply user-centered design methods and develop the piClinic console, an electronic medical records system for limited resource clinics. He earned his master's degree and doctorate in human-centered design and engineering from the UW.
